Description

Stocky, triangular-headed viper, brown with darker geometric patterns. Excellent camouflage in leaves.

Habitat

Leaf litter, rubber & palm plantations, forest edges.

Where Found in Thailand

Southern and eastern Thailand. Major cause of snakebite hospitalizations.

Symptoms

  • Intense pain
  • Severe swelling
  • Blistering
  • Bleeding from gums
  • Tissue necrosis

First Aid — DO

  • Immobilize limb
  • Remove rings/watches
  • Photograph snake from safe distance for ID
  • Hospital immediately

DO NOT

  • DO NOT cut, suck, ice, or tourniquet
  • DO NOT walk if leg bitten
