Shrub with narrow leaves and pink, white or red flowers. Every part contains cardiac glycosides — even smoke from burning it is toxic.

Habitat

Gardens, roadsides, resort landscaping.

Where Found in Thailand

Planted throughout Thailand as an ornamental shrub.

Symptoms

  • Nausea & vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Irregular or slow heartbeat
  • Dizziness
  • Cardiac arrest

First Aid — DO

  • DO NOT induce vomiting
  • Keep the person calm and still
  • Bring a sample of the plant
  • Hospital immediately

DO NOT

  • DO NOT burn oleander cuttings
  • DO NOT use branches as skewers or straws
